Frequently Asked Questions

What breeds do you recommend for service work?

Not every breed is built for service work. While temperament matters more than appearance, working breeds tend to offer the stability and drive we need. We typically recommend:

  • Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are known for their calm nature and eagerness to learn

  • German Shepherds for their focus and versatility

  • Standard Poodles are known for their intelligence and hypoallergenic coat

  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for smaller tasks or psychiatric support roles

Some less-common breeds may be appropriate for specific needs, but we always start with a temperament evaluation to ensure the dog can handle the demands of service work.

A good service dog candidate is confident, calm, and able to focus in different environments. We look for stable nerves, a desire to work, and neutrality around people, dogs, noises, and surfaces. We start with an evaluation to make sure your dog is a fit before moving forward.
Service dogs are for individuals with physical or mental disabilities that affect daily life. Common conditions include mobility limitations, epilepsy, PTSD, diabetes, or anxiety disorders. During our consultation, we’ll help determine what tasks your dog can be trained to support.
No—because ADA law doesn’t require or recognize official certification. Our dogs are trained to professional standards, and we may use tools like the AKC Canine Good Citizen test to evaluate public readiness. We do not issue or sell certificates.
No. Under ADA regulations, you’re not required to show documentation or certification. Businesses can ask if the dog is required for a disability and what tasks the dog performs—but they cannot require proof.

Yes. We regularly help clients prep for their first flight or airport experience. From TSA screening to boarding crowds and in-flight behavior, we’ll walk you through the process—and even help with airline paperwork and packing essentials.
